Abstract
Introduction: The incidence of malignancy in multinodular goitre has been found to vary from 4%-17%. Our aim is to know the incidence of malignancy in clinically benign multinodular goiter.
Material and Methods:This retrospective, analytical study done in operated patients who are admitted for clinically benign multinodular goiter in Fr Muller medical college Hospital during 2012-2013 (2yrs).All the operated specimen sent for histopathological examination to rule out malignancy.
Results: Among 182 operated specimen 15 (8.2%) contained malignant foci. Papillary carcinoma is the most common malignancy observed.
Conclusion:The risk of malignancy in MNG should not tobe underestimated. Total/near total thyroidectomy is the preferred operation. All the operated specimen sent for histopathological examination to rule out malignancy.
